Mitchell has been a Shores coach since 2011. Over the years, he’s coached our 16U Boys C and B teams, our 12U Girls, and he has been in his current role with our 14U Girls since 2015.
Mitch grew up in Chula Vista, where he played water polo at Hilltop High School. He went on to play for Grossmont College before getting his start in coaching as an assistant for their men’s team. Since then, he’s coached at Santana High School and The Bishops School and is currently a coach for the Pacific Southwest Zone ODP Cadet/Youth teams and an Assistant Coach for the San Diego State Women’s team. He has twice been awarded the Brent Bohlender Distinguished Coaching Award from USA Water Polo. He also has a Master’s degree in Coaching & Exercise Science.
When he’s not coaching water polo, Mitch is a Middle School PE teacher. He enjoys surfing and cheering on his favorite teams: the Padres, the Lakers, the SDSU Aztecs, and the LA Kings.
Coach Mitchell’s advice for young athletes:
“Have FUN!!! Learn, grow, get better, as players and people, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.”
