Coach Dan has been a part of the Shores family since 1999. Over the years, he has coached 14U Boys, 16U Boys, and, for the past three years, 10U Coed. Dan grew up in Bonita and started playing water polo at 13 after a friend invited him to try the sport. He quickly realized water polo was his passion and joined the team at Bonita Vista High School, coached by Shores High School Director and 18U Girls Coach Tim Reed.
Dan began coaching his first team at just 16 years old. Since then, he has coached at Miramar College, Southwestern College, Bonita Vista High School, and most recently at Steele Canyon High School. He feels honored to have had the opportunity to be part of the lives of so many athletes and their families.
Outside of coaching, Dan loves new experiences and traveling with his family and friends. He enjoys entertaining and is well-known for hosting a few big annual parties. Dan says he is a director by day, coach by night, and father and husband all the time.
Coach Dan’s advice for young athletes:
“When you find a sport that you love, commit yourself to it. Work hard because you love it. Focus on being a great teammate. Great things will happen for you with this approach. If you focus on only winning, college scholarships, or individual goals, then you will never be the quality of player, teammate, or recruit you could have been if you played for the right reasons.”
